Women With Migraines Are More Prone To To Suffer From Depression

Woman suffering from chronic headache, in particular migraine disorder, are more predisposed to suffer from depression disorder, feel fatigued, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a clinical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1020 people who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in five US regions. Of the woman tested, 112 reported episodic headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 112 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical study found patients with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patients diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical trial found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms would provoke or be a manifestation of major Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Psychotic Depression could heighten pain perception,” said clinical research author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression should be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer consequence for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical research was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American man are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 15000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating man care through education and clinical study. A neurologist is a general practitioner with specialized training in monitoring, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and repeated sclerosis.
